Finding Spirit

Central to many of our experiences as mothers lays our continuous process of connecting to the Divine in whatever way we understand Her or Him. This very personal, often conflicted facet of our selves as spiritual beings fascinates us.

Because we believe in its inherent power to shape both our selves and our mothering, “Finding Spirit” is intended to be a gathering place of sorts where mothers of all ages can share honestly about their own spiritual journeys. An essay for “Finding Spirit” will not be sectarian or proselytizing in nature, but rather be an honest treatment of one’s personal process and journey within their own spirituality. Length: 500-2000 words.

Turn those afternoon daydreams into something everyone can enjoy. So what if it’s about your high school boyfriend? We think that would be really…juicy, if you know what we mean. Get lost in your own imagination and start writing. The only guideline: Honesty. If your characters speak with it, so will your story.

Poetry

We accept poetry that embraces the notion that what is beautiful about motherhood is often unsentimental. While we relate to the mushy mommy moments, we especially value the process of getting down and dirty with one’s own self-reflection in order to reach those moments of mush. So give us your dirt, your grime, your grossest laundry and your worst hair day because we think that momma is beautiful!
